On 29 March 2026, eight ING runners lined up on the grid at Circuit Zandvoort for the 12km of the Zandvoort Circuit Run, the setting felt less like a standard road race and more like race day at a Grand Prix. We felt spring sunshine and a firm coastal wind that would later prove to be a serious opponent.
We were released when the lights went green, rolling out of the pit lane in packed start waves, arranged like a proper starting grid. The first four kilometres were pure motorsport territory: a full lap of the Formula 1 circuit. Wide asphalt, long straights, and the famous steeply banked corners defined the opening phase.
After completing the lap, the race shifted gears. Leaving the track, the course headed towards the beach and boulevard, where the wind became the dominant force. What had felt controlled on the circuit turned into a sustained headwind effort on the open sections. The final kilometres through the centre of Zandvoort demanded one last push. Crowds pulled us forward

7 ING runners took on the challenge of the 10‑mile distance at the Zandvoort Circuit Run, starting from one of the most iconic locations imaginable: Circuit Zandvoort. From the opening metres, the course demanded respect. The rolling elevation changes and heavily banked corners of the circuit tested both legs and focus, making the first section anything but routine.
After leaving the safety of the asphalt behind, the race turned into a true battle. The route led straight onto the beach, where conditions became brutal. A strong headwind hit us head‑on, while soft sand and high tide made every step heavier than the last. Progress was slow, energy was drained, and teamwork and mental strength became just as important as physical fitness.
Once the toughest stretch was behind us, the course guided us through the dunes. Here, the race shifted once more. With the wind finally at our backs, the pace lifted and it felt as if we had activated DRS, accelerating towards the finish line with renewed confidence.
All things considered, it was a demanding but incredibly enjoyable run, a unique course that combined speed, strength, and resilience, and one we will certainly remember.
